Designation reaches what a deck looks like
On a designated property, a structure visible from the street can attract preservation review that reaches railing style, material and proportion — not merely size. That applies to a small share of the city and to none of the surrounding growth areas, which is why the answer is parcel-specific. Stormwater reaches decks only where they add impervious surface beneath or alongside.

Confirm designation before drawing anything
Citywide preservation guidance cannot tell you your parcel's status, your setbacks, or whether your rim joist can carry a ledger. Confirm the first two with the city and the third on site before a deposit changes hands.
